Mønsted Kalkgruber provide an ideal winter habitat for over 10,000 bats that hibernate in the caves. This is due to the stable temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and the 98% high humidity. Explore the man-made limestone pits in the dark. Here you will encounter beautiful vaults, caves up to 18 meters high, underground lakes, fascinating lighting, gangways, and winding passages for miles, as well as the five bat species that hibernate in the caves: Daubenton's bat, Common pipistrelle, Natterer's bat, Brandt's bat, and Long-eared bat. Watch the impressive multimedia show about geology and history. From May 15th to August 15th, you can see bats in the caves.
